build.log

Hi,
After a emerge -av --depclean portage removed some packages like sci-libs/hdf5 and sys-cluster/openmpi (which were deps of digikam) and asked to rebuild digikam:

!!! existing preserved libs:
>>> package: sci-libs/clapack-3.2.1-r4
 *  - /usr/lib64/libclapack.so.3.2.1
 *      used by /usr/lib64/libdigikamcore.so.2.0.0 (media-gfx/digikam-2.2.0)
>>> package: dev-libs/libf2c-20090407-r1
 *  - /usr/lib64/libf2c.so.2
 *      used by /usr/lib64/libclapack.so.3.2.1 ()

laptop ~ # qfile /usr/lib64/libclapack.so.3.2.1
laptop ~ # qfile /usr/lib64/libf2c.so.2

Unfortunately digikam does not build anymore... Attached build.log
laptop ~ # emerge --info

Comment 1 Andreas K. Hüttel archtester gentoo-dev 2011-10-16 10:46:27 UTC
which versions of clapack or atlas do you have installed?
Comment 2 darkbasic 2011-10-16 14:11:40 UTC
sci-libs/clapack = NONE
sci-libs/blas-atlas = 3.8.0
sci-libs/lapack-atlas = 3.8.0
Comment 3 darkbasic 2011-10-17 21:41:25 UTC
If I emerge sci-libs/clapack it does configure and compile, shouldn't it be a dep?

Technically it should also work with atlas, the question is why it does not... I'll have to test.
Comment 5 Felix Leif Keppmann 2011-10-19 11:04:11 UTC
Same here

...

-- libpgf library found..................... YES (optional)
-- libclapack library found................. NO (optional - internal version used instead)
-- libgphoto2 and libusb libraries found.... YES (optional)

...

and then fails with:

CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:457 (MESSAGE):
   BUNDLED LIBRARIES HAVE BEEN FORCE-DISABLED IN THIS BUILD. Aborting.

ATLAS's implementation of (C)LAPACK is incomplete and uses different function names than the "real" CLAPACK provided by netlib, so that's why upstream looks only for the "real" CLAPACK in the build process.

I haven't done a deep analysis to see if digikam uses any functions that are unimplemented in ATLAS, and if it can be coerced into compiling against ATLAS's LAPACK without also having CLAPACK installed. And even if I can get it to work, it's unlikely that compiling against ATLAS will be supported upstream.

So until further notice, digikam needs to depend on sci-libs/clapack.

Fixed, thanks.
Comment 8 Soren Harward 2011-10-24 02:29:30 UTC
Why the dependency on >=sci-libs/clapack-3.2.1-r6 ? 3.2.1-r4 is stable, and digikam works just fine with it.
Comment 9 darkbasic 2011-10-24 08:39:44 UTC
Yeah, I do agree.

I suggest you read the ChangeLog. Believe me, there is a reason for it. (Hint: it's called bug 274940.)
