net-dialup/ppp-2.4.5-r1 has been stabilized, but it's not compatible with the currently stable networkmanager-0.8-r1, which installs only /usr/lib/pppd/2.4.4/nm-pppd-plugin.so, but that doesn't work with ppp-2.4.5: Jun 3 15:50:22 wiese NetworkManager: <debug> [1307109022.526907] nm_ppp_manager_start(): ppp started with pid 4039 Jun 3 15:50:22 wiese NetworkManager: <info> Activation (eth0) Stage 4 of 5 (IP6 Configure Get) scheduled... Thanks for pointing out this dependency between networkmanager and ppp verions -- assigning to networkmanager maintainers
Could we go with newer versions? They seem to work fine for me since added to the tree, thanks
I'm sorry but I just removed net-misc/networkmanager-0.8.4.0-r1 from the tree. net-misc/networkmanager-0.8.4.0-r2 has mobile broadband dependency optional (ppp and modemmanager) as well as systemd support. Since nothing changed between -r1 -r2 (code wise - only ebuild dependency updates) I suggest using net-misc/networkmanager-0.8.4.0-r2.
OK to CC arches then?
Maintainer timeout, arches please go ahead.
amd64: been using it for months, works except for bug 377183
Not ok for me on x86. It does not respect wireless status. e.g. If i put down my wireless card, with stable nm, when i reboot, my wireless card is down as I set. With new version, every reboot i must shutdown my wireless card.

for nm-applet: * QA Notice: Unrecognized configure options: * * configure: WARNING: unrecognized options: --enable-debug * configure: WARNING: unrecognized options: --enable-debug And from qlist: /usr/lib64/gnome-bluetooth/plugins/libnma.a /usr/lib64/gnome-bluetooth/plugins/libnma.so /usr/lib64/gnome-bluetooth/plugins/libnma.la It needs a static-libs USE and .la file clean. Tell me if you want that I'll open separate bugs.
with last revision is ok. AMD64 OK
amd64 - emerges fine, basic usage ok

Hi, it works fine for me on x86 with with wired/wireless, including nm-applet and openvpn/pptp (0.8.2 - maybe they should be stabilized as well?). One note though: the manual says that nm-system-settings.conf is deprecated in favor of NetworkManager.conf, but the latter is ignored during startup.
Apparently this was a bad idea to stabilize, my dialup connection wasn't working properly, I had to upgrade to networkmanager-9 and so nm-applet-9, gtk3.
(In reply to comment #14) Did the dialup work in versions prior to 8.4? It's weird that amd64 is stable, but x86 is still not.
x86 stable
