However in stable it builds fine

Comment 1 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2011-04-30 06:51:18 UTC
something has changed because this worked on multiple systems for me:
# uname -m
alpha
# qlist -I -v openssl
dev-libs/openssl-1.0.0d
# readelf -s /usr/lib/libcrypto.so | grep bn_mul_mont
  2665: 00000000000b0f40   816 FUNC    GLOBAL DEFAULT [<other>: 80]    11 bn_mul_mont

maybe the perl-5.8 -> perl-5.12 upgrade ?
Comment 2 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2011-04-30 07:06:46 UTC
your log:
/usr/bin/perl asm/alpha-mont.pl | alpha-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc -E - | tee alpha-mont.s > /dev/null
<stdin>:1:2: error: invalid preprocessing directive #indef
<stdin>:3:2: error: #else without #if
<stdin>:4:17: fatal error: asm.h: No such file or directory
compilation terminated.

not sure how this worked before as none of my alpha systems have build logs
