Comment 1 Ultrabug gentoo-dev 2011-04-26 10:04:25 UTC
Hi Diego, you indeed need a running mongod instance in order to pass the tests. I've added a warning in the ebuild so users are better aware of this.

+ 26 Apr 2011; Ultrabug <ultrabug@gentoo.org> pymongo-1.10.1.ebuild:
+ Add a warning for test phase, wrt #364671.

Regards
Comment 2 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-04-26 12:06:47 UTC
Would it be possible to have the ebuild start a mongo instance _just_ to run the tests?
Comment 3 Ultrabug gentoo-dev 2011-05-13 14:58:32 UTC
Technically yes I think, but _from my knowledge_, running a new mongod preallocates 3Gb of space before the server is ready.

Apart from that it would slow down the test phase, we should then use a --dbpath to a temporary place such as /tmp for the prealloc files and I don't think all users would like that (well, I wouldn't) because /tmp is often mounted exotically (ramfs for ex.)
Comment 4 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-05-13 15:10:04 UTC
Preallocated or used? Because you can call malloc(3GB) on a system with 1, by default.. as long as you don't use it. Plus you should use $T not /tmp ...

Otherwise I'd rather RESTRICT=test as the test phase would be very _very_ unreliable at all. And an unreliable test phase is even less useful than a decent one.

RESTRICT="test" it is then, fine with me, okay with you ?
