Description Alexander Goomenyuk 2011-03-28 20:14:20 UTC
=== Summary ===
There is issue which is not reproduced with hostapd-0.7.3, but occurs with hostapd-0.6.9;

The release of 0.7.3 was almost 6 months ago. Still not open issue against one on Gentoo bugzilla.

Here are few against 0.6.9:
[1] http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=573048
[2] http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=600589

=== Details of issue ===
On one of Gentoo based workstation I have two wired interface (lan0, lan1) and one wireless interface (wlan0, ath9k). All the interfaces are binded together to single bridge (br0).

With the hostapd-0.6.9 and kernel 2.6.3-tuxonice-r3 there is weired behavior of hostapd:
* If hostapd is started before net.br0 init script, then supplicants not able to connect to AP because of EAPOL-Key timeout during handshake step 1/4.

* If hostapd started after net.br0, then AP works expected.
However this sequence not acceptable, because net.br0 needs hostapd to be started before. Otherwise adding wlan0 to br0 failed with "operation not permitted". Thus manual restart of net.br0 required later.

I guess this happens because wlan0 interface not configured. Using of iwconfig before the net.br0 start not possible, because nl82011 used for wlan0 doesn't accept setting the master mode from legacy tools (i.e. iwconfig). iw tool doesn't accept either.

Compile tests were successful on x86, but i don't have a wireless to test with.

PPC, would you please take a look at this?
Comment 7 Bjarke Istrup Pedersen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-07-06 11:33:31 UTC
Does the missing answer from PPC means, that it does not work, or?
Comment 8 Kacper Kowalik (Xarthisius) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-07-13 12:19:36 UTC
