Description Paul Gover 2011-03-24 15:11:43 UTC
The openrc-0.8.0 ebuild ends with instructions to move scripts from /etc/conf.d/local.{start,stop} to /etc/conf.d/local. Fine.

However, I guess following the fix for 351465, /etc/init.d/local now says to move them from /etc/conf.d/local to /etc/local.d/! Which, given the similarity of the various directory names, made me wonder if I was losing it :-)

Can we rework the openrc ebuild to say to move the scripts from /etc/conf.d/local.{start,stop} to /etc/local.d ?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install baselayout2
2. Apply sys-apps/openrc-0.8.0
Actual Results:
ebuild log says

WARN (postinst)

/etc/conf.d/local.{start,stop} are deprecated. Please convert
your files to /etc/conf.d/local and delete the files.

and having done so and rebooted, system log says

/etc/conf.d/local should be removed.
Please move the code from the local_start function
to scripts with an .start extension
in /etc/local.d

Expected Results:
ebuild log says

WARN (postinst)

/etc/conf.d/local.{start,stop} are deprecated. Please move
your scripts to /etc/local.d

Actually this message will be removed from the ebuild, because it is no longer accurate, as you pointed out below.

This should have happened automatically; it is part of the baselayout-1 to openrc migration. /etc/conf.d/local.start should be moved to /etc/local.d/baselayout1.start and /etc/conf.d/local.stop should be moved to /etc/local.d/baselayout1.stop.

Did this happen on your system?
Comment 2 Paul Gover 2011-03-24 19:18:34 UTC
Nothing appeared to have been moved. My /etc/local.d directory contains only the README file.

I'm not sure of the timeline here. I installed openrc some time back, but I can't remember when. It may have been November last year (that's the date on mdraid, which AFAIR was introduced with openrc, but it may have been touched since I installed openrc. ISTHERE a way to get package installation history?)

Whatever, I didn't have anything in local.start or local.stop, so I can't say if anything got put into /etc/conf.d/local or not :-( All three files were there after today's emerge --update, which upgraded openrc/baselayout2.

Similarly, nothing got put into /etc/local.d, but then there wasn't anything to put there.

Sorry not to be more helpful.

Not that I know of, but you answered my question by saying that openrc was installed a while back. I was trying to find out if you had just migrated from baselayout-1.

This would make sense, because the files from baselayout-1 were still there. For people who migrate from baselayout-1 to openrc-0.8.0 or newer, local.* will be moved to /etc/local.d/baselayout1.*. Since you migrated a while back, we just print a warning and let you know to do the migration manually.

The out of date instructions have been removed from the openrc-0.8.0 ebuild, so hopefully this will clear up the confusion.

Feel free to re-open if you have any more questions.
