Description Tupone Alfredo gentoo-dev 2011-03-16 16:32:18 UTC
During the build of dos2unix I get an error:

podchecker dos2unix.pod
make[1]: podchecker: Command not found
make[1]: *** [dos2unix.1] Error 127

It seems missing a dependency on perl-core/PodParser

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 Patrizio Bassi 2011-03-18 12:16:29 UTC
why?

i have it provided by dev-lang/perl-5.12.3

type podchecker
podchecker is /usr/bin/podchecker

file /usr/bin/podchecker
/usr/bin/podchecker: symbolic link to `podchecker-1.38-PodParser-1.38'

equery belongs podchecker-1.38-PodParser-1.38
perl-core/PodParser-1.38 (/usr/bin/podchecker-1.38-PodParser-1.38)

equery depends perl-core/PodParser
virtual/perl-PodParser-1.38 (~perl-core/PodParser-1.38)

equery depends virtual/perl-PodParser
mail-filter/spamassassin-3.3.1-r4 (>=virtual/perl-PodParser-1.32)

So on one of my system it is a dependency of spamassassin, not dev-lang/perl

... Here is my emerge --info

Comment 3 Justin Lecher (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-04-04 09:19:15 UTC
Torsten, could you please tell what is the right dependency here?
Comment 4 Torsten Veller (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-04-04 10:02:33 UTC
Depending on dev-lang/perl is sufficient. Currently we do not rigorously depend on the virtuals.

/usr/bin/podchecker is a link to
- podchecker-*-perl-5* ( from dev-lang/perl ) or
- podchecker-*-PodParser-* ( from perl-core/PodParser )

The link isn't set up correctly if the system is upgraded from on old perl prior 5.8.8-r8, but the ebuild prints a warning in this case.

Why dos2unix failed with "make[1]: podchecker: Command not found" is not obvious. What was `ls -l /usr/bin/podchecker*`?

Anyway, wrt comment#3, uninstalling perl-core/PodParser should relink to podchecker-*-perl-5*.
Comment 5 Tupone Alfredo gentoo-dev 2011-04-04 12:51:20 UTC
That's ok for me. I see that probably was a fault on my installation. Probably an upgrade from an old perl version
