There is an update to inkscape 0.48.1 which fixes some minor issues (not least of them: - Cursor position markers are not cleared from rulers with recent versions of GTK. - https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/627134 and - Does not build with recent poppler. - https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/676271 Reproducible: Always - patch for poppler is not needed anymore, since it has been integrated into upstream inkscape Using ebuild of inkscape 0.48.0 with out-commented poppler-epatch line works just fine. Also, out-commenting the epatch line for the spell checker brought no compile error. Neither did leaving it in and renaming the spell-patch to inkscape-0.48.1-spell.patch. Furthermore, it should also fix Gentoo Bug#: 348791 I tested with USE="gnome lcms nls spell -debug -dia -gs -inkjar -wmf" -> so I don't know if there will be any issues with other use-flags
