After upgrading to 2.14.0, kdm starts with blank screen. I can see the mouse cursor, and it even changes when I move it to where the login and password fields are supposed to be, but the rest of the screen stays black. Xorg.log.0 keeps showing lines like: [ 1186.689] (EE) intel(0): Failed to submit batch buffer, expect rendering corruption or even a frozen display: No such device. Quick solution was masking >=2.14.0 (/etc/portage/package.mask) which downgraded to 2.13.0. This might be the same problem as described upstream in > https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33016 Can you give the libdrm patch a try?
Can you try upgrading to a newer kernel?
Upgraded to 2.6.36-gentoo-r5, unmasked and merged xf86-video-intel and now X works ok. Didn't try libdrm patch, should I? I usually keep my system up to date, but was having a problem upgrading to newer kernels because a driver I needed wouldn't compile. It's fixed now. I'm new with posting bugs to gentoo. What should be the status of this bug now? Am I supposed to change it?
Just to say that I have exactly the same problem and downgrading libdrm and x86-video-intel solves it. However, upgrading to 2.6.36.2 (vanilla) and using newer libdrm and x86-video-intel does not provide a useful X, even if it seems to behave a bit better. So could it looks like the official gentoo kernel already incorporates the patch for this bug... isn't it? Thanks Marco
As the original reporter's problem no longer occurs, I am marking this as fixed. Regarding comment 4, please open a new bug if you still see a problem with latest unstable kernel and xf86-video-intel.
