Description Martin Wegner 2011-01-20 16:40:17 UTC
On my ~amd64 system, sys-kernel/genkernel-3.4.11.1 fails to build because the "a2x" executable is missing on my system:
[...]
make -j5 -l6
a2x --conf-file=doc/asciidoc.conf --attribute="genkernelversion=`/bin/fgrep GK_V= genkernel | sed "s/.*GK_V='\([^']\+\)'/\1/"`" \
         --format=manpage -D . "doc/genkernel.8.txt"
/bin/sh: a2x: command not found

I'll attach complete build.log.

Maybe this is a missing dependency on app-text/asciidoc?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge -av =sys-kernel/genkernel-3.4.11.1
Actual Results:
emerge of genkernel fails.

Expected Results:
Should not fail ;)

Comment 2 Martin Wegner 2011-01-20 16:55:41 UTC
I can confirm that sys-kernel/genkernel-3.4.11.1 emerges fine here with app-text/asciidoc installed.
Comment 3 Sebastian Pipping gentoo-dev 2011-01-20 18:08:33 UTC
"make" should actually not have been called at all - the error from a2x seems to result from a timestamp problem with the files in the release tarball.

+  20 Jan 2011; Sebastian Pipping <sping@gentoo.org> genkernel-3.4.11.1.ebuild,
+  genkernel-9999.ebuild, genkernel-99999.ebuild:
+ Call "make" for live ebuilds only (bug #352250). Then asciidoc is not a build
+ time dependency as the man page is shipped with genkernel. Therefore I
+  reverted zmedico's previous commit.

Comment 4 Martin Wegner 2011-01-20 19:43:00 UTC
Sorry to bother again, but the ebuild still fails for me. Now it says:

 * ERROR: sys-kernel/genkernel-3.4.11.1 failed:
 *   (no error message)
 *
 * Call stack:
 *     ebuild.sh, line  56:  Called src_compile
 * environment, line 2422: Called die
 * The specific snippet of code:
 *       [[ ${PV} == 9999* ]] && emake || die
 *
 * If you need support, post the output of 'emerge --info =sys-kernel/genkernel-3.4.11.1',
 * the complete build log and the output of 'emerge -pqv =sys-kernel/genkernel-3.4.11.1'.
 * The complete build log is located at '/var/tmp/portage/sys-kernel/genkernel-3.4.11.1/temp/build.log'.
 * The ebuild environment file is located at '/var/tmp/portage/sys-kernel/genkernel-3.4.11.1/temp/environment'.
 * S: '/var/tmp/portage/sys-kernel/genkernel-3.4.11.1/work/genkernel-3.4.11.1'

I think the problem may be the "|| die" part?

I'd be glad if you could look into this, too :)

> I'd be glad if you could look into this, too :)

Ouch, sorry.

+  20 Jan 2011; Sebastian Pipping <sping@gentoo.org> genkernel-3.4.11.1.ebuild,
+  genkernel-9999.ebuild, genkernel-99999.ebuild:
+ Fix broken Bash logic (still bug #352250 in a way)
+
+  A: false && true || echo die
+  B: { false && true ; } || echo die
+  C: false && { true || echo die ; }
+
+ Despite basic testing, I wrongly assumed A=C. In contrast, A=B is true.
