Maybe you forgot to run needed revdep-rebuild commands and remove old evolution-data-server libs. Please check /var/log/portage/summary.log since I am sure evolution-data-server needs that additional steps for a proper update (as can be seen reading its 2.32 ebuild) Good luck
+ 11 Dec 2010; Pacho Ramos <pacho@gentoo.org> libgnome-2.32.0.ebuild: + '--enable-sound' is no longer available, use '--enable-canberra' as it's the + new default and the preferred for the best user experience as can be seen in + libgnome Changelog (bug #348400 by David J Cozatt). +
In reply to comment #3 if you are upgrading via 'emerge -uvNDp world' or some similar string the user allows building packages in sequence typically and these were part of such a run. If the revdep-rebuild needs to run before properly building mail-client/evolution then evolution.ebuild should bail or run the revdep -rebuild? this should be added to the gnome guide/upgrade docs perhaps? am running the script as in the message replied (had noted but there were several such during the process) with a verified coming examples:brassero, evolution-data-server
