I searched for that problem and found a patch at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ettercap/+bug/588007

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start ettercap
2. Select an Interface
3. Scan for Hosts

Actual Results:  
In about 80% ettercap crashes

Expected Results:  
Find Hosts

Here is the patch which works for me.

I can confirm the patch fixes the problem. I have also sent a mail to developers, hopefully they will accept the patch.

I have tested the devel version and it works fine.
