2010-10-26 is a date of release openbabel-2.3.0. 
2010-07-03 is a date of release latest stable gnome-chemistry-utils-0.12.3

But ebuilds in portage are old and as I know the new versions of those apps are better and eliminates a lot of annoying bugs. So, ebuilds update is necessary.

I second the petition for including openbabel 2.3.0 in the tree

We will do it. Did you test the versions from the scioverlay?
