Description Marc Joliet 2010-11-02 11:22:43 UTC
media-sound/audacity-1.3.12 fails to compile now. It used to compile just fine. The compilation fails at portaudio (see build.log), but differently than in bug #334499. In $URL one of the comments
(http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.audio.audacity.devel/30985/match=)
mentions bashisms being used in some build script, so I switched my /bin/sh symlink to point at bash instead of dash, and miraculously, it compiled.

Apparently something in the build system needs to be patched to call bash directly instead of sh.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge \=media-sound/audacity-1.3.12
Actual Results:
Audacity fails to build during portaudio compilation.

Expected Results:
Audacity emerges succesfully.

Portage 2.1.8.3 (default/linux/amd64/10.0, gcc-4.4.4, glibc-2.11.2-r3, 2.6.34-gentoo-r12 x86_64)

Ordinarily I would request that you help out the maintainers by attaching an English build log, e.g.

LC_ALL="C" emerge audacity

but in this case an upstream maintainer has already figured out this odd problem with sh=dash, documented it, and committed a fix.

http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_name=1287245303.5709.102.camel%40localhost
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_name=1287604308.5737.17.camel%40localhost

And, this core upstream dev happens to be tracking gentoo audacity bugs, so he might even chip in with advice on whether to patch this ebuild for now or do a version bump :)
Comment 3 Richard Ash 2010-11-09 19:59:12 UTC
There isn't a new upstream release to version bump to (yet!), so patching the ebuild is probably the way to go (as after all the faff to work out the cause, it's a one-line patch!).

The patch to portaudio build system

This is the upstream patch, which might need the offsets moving to make it apply to the 1.3.12 release (I haven't tried). Where the line goes in the file is not actually critical ... No autotools run needed after this patch, as no Automake in portaudio (which was the cause of the problem to start with).
Comment 5 Tim Harder gentoo-dev 2010-11-09 20:37:36 UTC
Fixed in CVS. Thanks for the patch.
