Please give some more (and more precise) information:

> flaky
> crashs repeadly after several times, different places

Which component crashes (SD, FD, Dir, bconsole, bat, ....?)
Can you describe the observed behaviour with some more details, please?

> bat: ABORTING due to ERROR in console/console.cpp:155
> Failed to connect to doc235-dir for populateLists.
>
> error message on failing

- Which error message?
-Is it a total new installation on your side or an upgrade from former version?

Please provide also output of 'emerge --info'.

Weird. Works here on similar system for weeks. Can you please add the build log and give info about your USE flag setting. Thanks.
Comment 6 blain 'Doc' Anderson 2010-10-29 15:49:02 UTC
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~amd64" emerge =app-backup/bacula-5.0.3-r1
apologies, i have been testing an older version
this is what i used today and it compiled fine
still won't run on my system. i get no other error message than

bat: ERROR TERMINATION at parse_conf.c:898
Config error: Cannot open config file "/etc/bacula/bat.conf": Permission denied

is the error i get now.

still won't run, only the one error message and nothing else.
tried several different methods (run command), CLI, restarted, all fail to give me anything to work with.
i DO run KDE and i only get the bacula administration tool in my system and utilities folder
