Marked -hppa for now.
Comment 2 Guy Martin (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-08-30 17:18:41 UTC
What kernel version and kgcc64 were you using ?
Have you tried multiple combination ?

> What kernel version and kgcc64 were you using ?

kernel 2.6.32 and up because I didn't try binutils-2.20.1 with older kernels, and I don't think the problem is there.
Both kgcc64-4.2.4 and -4.4.4.

> Have you tried multiple combination ?

Yes, and strikingly, switching from binutils -2.19 to -2.20 triggers it immediately, while switching back links the final kernel without problems.

When the problem does occur, with 2.20, it takes up around 130 megabytes of memory before it segfaults, so it doesn't seem to be exhausting RAM.

What version of gcc did you use to compile this binutils ?

Can you provide your .config ?

I haven't been able to repro here using kgcc64-4.4.4 and kernel 2.6.35.
I've built binutils-hppa64 with gcc-4.4.4 as well.

After rebuilding glibc with the CLOEXEC changes, binutils went wrong. After rebuilding binutils again, it's OK.
