All the googling I've done keeps claiming this is a ccache issue. The problem is, I don't even have ccache installed, let alone in use. I had it on the other machine in the distcc "cluster" (does two nodes count as a cluster?), but I just uninstalled it, and re-ran the emerge, and it still fails.

I'll try again without distcc, but that's not a real long-term solution since next time glibc is upgraded, I'll have the same fun again.

Without a build log we really can't find many details about that. Also, you should profile emerge --info for both nodes.

Build log from failure

Note that the "other node" also has the real /usr/portage, the new machine is currently mounting it rw via NFS. (I'm going to reverse that eventually.)

Other node being used for distcc's emerge --info output:

Reopening with requested information attached/added.
Comment 4 Michael Weber (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-07-30 07:04:56 UTC
This has always been a problem, afaik.
Comment 5 Mike DeSimone 2010-11-19 06:13:58 UTC
I've always had to build glibc by itself with FEATURES=-distcc. It's annoying that Gentoo will not implement /etc/portage/package.features where I can put `sys-libs/glibc -distcc`; several Gentoo devs have insisted that FEATURES be global no matter what (see bug 51023).

glibc fails pretty late in the process, so it's a pain to get the log, but next time I forget FEATURES=-distcc, I'll try to remember to cut and paste it here. If this hasn't been closed first.

So I have to check every update to see if glibc is updating, about emerge world, emerge glibc by hand sans distcc, then rerun emerge world. Or live without distcc.
Comment 6 Jeremy Murphy 2010-12-14 06:17:53 UTC
Looking at the build.log, the original poster may have something wrong with their cross-compiling system that is causing the problem. Alternatively, distcc may not be configured correctly, especially if the client and host are different architectures. I only say this because I don't see the same proliferation of "warning: conflicting types for built-in function" when using distcc. You/they may want to check that you have the same version of gcc, linux-headers and glibc on the client and host(s).

However, having said that, I am also having trouble compiling glibc with distcc, but the errors are sandbox related (and I don't recall having them in the past).

Mike, the feature you want is in portage (maybe added in 2.1.9), and it's package.env. Cheers.
