Description James L. Hammons 2010-07-19 13:41:07 UTC
Steps to reproduce:

1) Launch cfdisk for any visible disk in the system (e.g., cfdisk /dev/sda)

2) Select any partition, then select "Type" from the menu at the bottom

3) Attempt to type more than one character at the "Enter filesystem type" prompt

Note that cfdisk from util-linux 2.17.2 does not exhibit this behavior. I tested this on three separate systems (one desktop, one laptop, and one server) and they all exhibit the same problem. The following is the "emerge --info" from one of those systems (the desktop); if you'd like, I can include "emerge --info" from the other two as well.

# emerge --info

Comment 1 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2010-07-19 19:41:05 UTC
looks like a bug with the wide char handling. it asks for 2 bytes, but via wide chars, so you can only input 1 char.
Comment 2 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2010-07-19 21:50:46 UTC
applied the upstream patch for the issue to 2.18-r1. seems to work for me.
Comment 3 James L. Hammons 2010-07-20 16:59:46 UTC
Confirmed the patch fixes it, at least on the server, so closing. Thanks!
