Hello, I would like to report a bug that occurs since 2-3 kdm latest versions. I notice this bug each time I update kdm. The problem is that, the background file /usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/oxygen/background.svg is not correct. Actually, according to the template thumbnail the background should be this one: http://nuno-icons.com/images/wall/blac2.png Instead we find this one: http://i.imgur.com/XeBiQ.png Please correct the package with the right background. Each time I upgrade KDM I have to get the right background from another distribution and replace the wrong file. Best regards, Flavio Reproducible: Always
Created attachment 236419 [details] Correct background for the oxygen theme. This is the correct file to be included in the kdm theme directory.
Still not fixed. Why? It is so simple.
We're not changing the upstream settings here. Maybe other distros do...
I don't understand why! There is an error in the package. Other distros (Debian for instance) actually have the right background, and gentoo doesn't! Why? Anyway... I'll continue to fix it manually! O_O
Looking at system-settings, the background you want is part of the oxygen theme and not of oxygen-air. If that's the case, how is this a bug?
:/ System-settings->Advanced Login Manager->Theme: According also to the thumbnails and also with other distros, Oxygen must have this background: http://nuno-icons.com/images/wall/blac2.png and Oxygen-Air, this one: http://i.imgur.com/XeBiQ.png (Both these two themes come boundled with kdm). Well, this is not true, since emerging the kdm package, we find an uncorrect svg file with respect to the Oxygen theme background, as I said in comment #0. This issue happens on Gentoo, and (for example) on Debian it doesn't. Ok, maybe this can't be called "bug", since it is not a programming error, but it's an error that should be correct. This happens _only_ on a gentoo package (i.e. the kdm package). The solution to this problem seems to be very simple. It's just necessary to substitute a file. I hope I was more clear this time. Best regards, Flavio

Do you have any links or references about the claim that the theme should be using a different background? I'm trying to determine whether there's an error with the bundled file, an issue with the theme selection or something else.
The answer is simple: if you select a theme which shows a thumbnail for background, you expect that the background will be the same of the thumbnail. In this case, I see a background preview, and when I try to set this theme, the background is not what I expected. So, as well as for other distros, it's sufficient to substitute the svg file as I explained in my first message.
I'm reopening this bug, because while testing I wasn't able to change the theme, had to do it manually by updating /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc and because the background is not the same as the preview. I'm going to look at this a bit more to try to find out if were changing anything in the install or if this is an upstream bug.
Is this bug still present in 4.6?
(In reply to comment #11) > Is this bug still present in 4.6? > I didn't update to 4.6 yet, but I hope so!!! If someone has done the upgrade to 4.6, it would be nice to share the experience about this issue.

kde-4.5 is no more.
