Comment 2 Juergen Rose 2010-06-03 07:31:36 UTC
I have the same error here on x86_64 and i686 systems.
Comment 3 Aaron W. Swenson gentoo-dev 2010-06-04 00:33:15 UTC
I hate to be "one of those guys", but this builds fine for me on x86.

Try:
rm /usr/portage/distfiles/postgresql-8.4.4.tar.bz2 # Just in case
emerge --sync # Just in case
  emerge -av =dev-db/postgresql-base-8.4.4-r1
Comment 4 Juergen Rose 2010-06-04 08:55:57 UTC
Performing the steps of Comment #3, emerge fails with the same result:

Post your 'emerge --info' as well please.
Comment 6 Juergen Rose 2010-06-04 10:30:30 UTC
I have the issue on at least three x86_64 and two i686 systems. The 'emerge --info' output from my laptop for example would be:

Comment 7 Aaron W. Swenson gentoo-dev 2010-06-04 13:10:23 UTC
The problem lies with the Heimdal patch that has been included in the ebuild. I was fairly certain that it didn't interfere with the MIT version.

Looks like the fix is to apply the patch conditionally.

For the moment the work around would be to disable the 'kerberos' USE flag on dev-db/postgresql-base or comment out the Heimdal patch line in the ebuild.

Comment 11 Andrew John Hughes 2010-06-14 09:47:13 UTC
The problem is that the Hiemdal patch removes -lgssapi but one of the libraries being linked is -lgssapi_krb5:

configure:7771: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -o conftest -O2 -pipe -march=core2 -ggdb -mno-tls-direct-seg-refs -Wall -Wmissing-prototyp\
es -Wpointer-arith -Wdeclaration-after-statement -Wendif-labels -fno-strict-aliasing -fwrapv -D_GNU_SOURCE -Wl,-O1 conftest.c -\
lgssapi_krb5 -lz -lreadline -lcrypt -ldl -lm >&5

which becomes _krb5 for the call to AC_REPLACE_FUNCS breaking those function tests for getrusage, strdup, etc. This makes pg_config.h's settings incorrect, so the build tries to compile functions like getrusage and strdup that already exist in the system libraries.

The simple fix is:

-LIBS=`echo "$LIBS" | sed -e 's/-ledit//g' -e 's/-lreadline//g' -e 's/-lgssapi//g' -e 's/-lkrb5//g'`
+LIBS=`echo "$LIBS" | sed -e 's/-ledit//g' -e 's/-lreadline//g' -e 's/-lgssapi_krb5//g' -e 's/-lgssapi//g' -e 's/-lkrb5//g'`

Builds fine with that.
