Blender 2.5 Alpha 2 is out any chance to see it in portage tree? Reproducible: Always
just 2.50a1 sources are available... Once they will hopefully I'll add something to portage.
I don't see the need of adding an alpha version to the portage tree. The other ways to get Blender 2.5 are: - to use the ebuild provided in this bug: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=276338 - to download an binary package from blender.org (crapy for gentoo I know) - to build it by yourself, following the Blender compile guide, available on the wiki (this what the ebuild from the bug report tries to do) 2.52 (aka 2.5 alpha2) is now far from the current SVN version, which will nearly become a beta. Just be patient, I guess an overlay will soon provide such an ebuild.

As the 2.52 is out of date. I found an overlay that provides an ebuild for the 2.56 beta. The overlay is named "wavilen", give it a try with layman ! Note: for SVN version, please use the ebuild in this bug http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=276338
