Then you have to uninstall dev-perl/XML-LibXML-Common or remove the line from /var/lib/portage/world yourself, before portage can resolve this dependency problem automatically.
I've applied your recommendation by removing the XML-LibXML-Common. It worked fine. I was then able to put dev-perl/XML-LibXML-1.70 back at it original location. Everything went smooth as silk when I did my original emerge thing. Although my guest is that it shouldn't have occured, I feel just lost trying to understand what happened. Not enough confortable with gentoo and portage logic may be ... I consider this issue to be closed. Many Thanks. ;)
Please stabilize also dev-perl/XML-LibXSLT-1.70, because 1.66 version of XML::LibXSLT doesn't work with new XML::LibXML: This version of XML::LibXSLT requires XML::LibXML 1.66 (ABI 1), which is incompatible with currently installed XML::LibXML 1.70 (ABI 2). Please upgrade XML::LibXSLT, XML::LibXML, or both! at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/i686-linux-thread-multi/XML/LibXML.pm line 49. Stable for HPPA and closing.
