Comment 1 Mike Mazur 2010-02-03 11:16:15 UTC
I also re-emerged setuptools and tried again, as suggested in http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?format=multiple&id=292379 just in case, but the problem persists.
Comment 2 Mike Mazur 2010-02-03 11:17:56 UTC
I should also add I have dev-python/setuptools-0.6.10 installed, which is currently also stable (on x86).
Comment 3 Jeremy Olexa (darkside) (RETIRED) archtester gentoo-dev Security 2010-02-04 05:02:09 UTC
Sorry, works for me and the arch testers (which is why it was marked stable). Let me know if you find anything and I can fix it. Until then, don't expect much action.
Comment 4 about.gentoobugs 2010-02-04 21:37:21 UTC
Downgrading setuptools to 0.6.8-r1 makes iotop install in my setup, with 0.6.10 I see the same error as reported.

The iotop-0.3.2-r1.ebuild lacks
inherit eutils
Adding eutils to the inherit line and iotop installs nicely with setuptools-0.6.10

Interesting, it is an obvious omission to the ebuild, but the distutils.eclass inherits eutils so epatch() is defined. (Not the correct way mind you). I would still like to find out why this happens to a few people only. I'll be able to commit this "fix" later today.
Comment 6 Mike Mazur 2010-02-04 23:13:22 UTC
Sorry, I haven't had a chance to look into this further, though it looks like about.gentoobugs in comment #4 did. For what it's worth, I see something very similar emerging net-zope/zope-interface-3.5.3.
Comment 7 Remy Blank 2010-02-05 10:18:07 UTC
iotop seems to bundle a setuptools egg (setuptools-0.6c9-py2.4.egg), which seems to be picked up for some reason. Removing it makes the build step pass.
Comment 8 Remy Blank 2010-02-05 10:31:43 UTC
The following patch does the trick:

--- setup.py.orig       2010-02-05 11:19:49.000000000 +0100
+++ setup.py    2010-02-05 11:20:00.000000000 +0100
@@ -2,7 +2,6 @@

 import sys

-sys.path.insert(0, 'setuptools-0.6c9-py2.4.egg')
 from setuptools import setup, find_packages
 from iotop.version import VERSION

Comment 9 Remy Blank 2010-02-05 11:18:45 UTC
Oh, the patch is already there, but the ebuild is missing an "inherit eutils".
Comment 10 Jeremy Olexa (darkside) (RETIRED) archtester gentoo-dev Security 2010-02-05 15:51:20 UTC
ah, good. it was not my fault! :) Someone changed the distutils.eclass to no longer inherit eutils. http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/gentoo-x86/eclass/distutils.eclass?r1=1.69&r2=1.70

fixed now and verified I wasn't going crazy. Thanks and sorry for the trouble.

Has this fix been committed? I just completed an `emerge --sync` and `emerge -u world` but the problem persists. Is there anything else I need to do at my end in order to resolve this issue?

It worked for me after I synced and updated isotop. Do you have more information?
Comment 14 Mike Mazur 2010-02-12 07:12:06 UTC
Actually, it works for me now, too.

It appears I was *also* suffering from a different issue. This warning in my original submission was the real culprit:

/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/pycrypto-2.0.1-py2.6-linux-i686.egg/Crypto/Hash/SHA256.py:3:
UserWarning: Module site was already imported from /usr/lib/python2.6/site.pyc,
but /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages is being added to sys.path

The root cause was my /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/easy-install.pth containing this line:

./setuptools-0.6c9-py2.6.egg

even though setuptools-0.6c9 is no longer installed. I have 0.6.10 installed now. Removing this line caused the warnings to go away, and iotop (and zope.interface) to emerge cleanly.

I'm just curious how that setuptools-0.6c9 entry got into my easy-install.pth file in the first place...
