Hi!
Audiofile 0.2.4 is out.
Renaming the ebuild worked fine here.
Maybe someone could test it.

renaming 0.2.3-r1 ebuild works fine for me too

Version 0.2.4, released on Friday, 26 September 2003, includes the following
changes:

    * Added support for large files. This option is disabled by default;
to enable large file support, run configure with the flag --enable-largefile.
    * Improved support for markers in WAVE files.
    * Added support for miscellaneous data in WAVE files.
    * Cleaned up code.
