Description Stoian Ivanov 2009-12-04 06:57:56 UTC
This is what I got at boot time but starting with (50 seconds)

sshd |* sshd: waiting for mysql (5 seconds)
vixie-cron |* vixie-cron: waiting for mysql (5 seconds)
local |* local: waiting for mysql (5 seconds)
named |* named: waiting for mysql (5 seconds)
xdm |* xdm: waiting for mysql (5 seconds)
hald |* hald: waiting for mysql (5 seconds)
apache2 |* apache2: waiting for named (5 seconds)
ntp-client |* ntp-client: waiting for mysql (5 seconds)
mysql |* mysql: waiting for named (5 seconds)

as bind has mysql use flag i guess it is ok to depend on mysql but why mysql depends on named? Guess it is considered part of "network" but the resolver can work without named .. anyways this is a bug.

This bug should be marked as a duplicate of 295260.

mysql needs name resolution for:
- ACL checks
- replication
if hostnames are used in either.

Will BIND built and configured with USE=mysql actually fail to start if MySQL is not available? Or will it just reconnect to the DB at some point later?

alunduil:
No, it is NOT a dupe of that bug, that's a separate but related issue.
Comment 4 Christian Ruppert (idl0r) gentoo-dev 2010-10-09 21:33:02 UTC
I fixed it in bind 9.4.3_p5-r1, 9.6.2_p2-r1, 9.7.1_p2-r1 and above.

The new mysql-init-2* scripts also make this entirely optional. Read the config files to figure out what you need.
