Please do. It should compile fine.

There are a bunch of tests you can run once installed. Ex:
# mkdir ~/geant4
# cp -r /usr/share/doc/geant-4*/examples ~/geant4
# cd ~geant4/examples/advanced/cosmicray_charging
# make

and now for a fancy and useless picture (and seeing $G4WORKDIR break)

# G4LEDATA=$G4DATA/G4EMLOW6.2/ $G4WORKDIR/bin/$G4SYSTEM/CRCharging init.mac

or for some calculations (with a surprisingly condensed output to run00_*)

# G4LEVELGAMMADATA=$G4DATA/PhotonEvaporation2.0 G4LEDATA=$G4DATA/G4EMLOW6.2/
~/geant4/bin/Linux-g++/CRCharging primaries/protons_solmin.mac


Note that 4.9.2-r2 is stable but buggy.
