Just a early heads up since the package seems to be orphan in Gentoo:

For LTO support in gcc 4.5 you should get libelf >= 0.8.12 ready.
Good start would be to simply bump the package version from now 0.8.10.

Then it can stabilize.
This may also help the new Kernel "perf" tool.
