Description Todd Smith 2009-11-10 22:15:39 UTC
The URL above lists the following

2. Choosing the Right Installation Medium
You can install Gentoo in many ways. This chapter explains how to install Gentoo using the minimal Installation CD

When you read that section (http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-ppc.xml?part=1&chap=2) it describes installing with the Universal Installation CD and specifically states:

The Minimal Installation CD contains only a minimal environment that allows you to boot up and configure your network so you can connect to the Internet. It does not contain any additional files and cannot be used during the current installation approach.

However, after reading the rest of the tutorial it seems as though the guide is using the minimal CD with the stage 3 tarballs.

I'm a first time Gentoo'er (or will be this weekend) so I'm confused as to which ISO to use. From Get Gentoo page it says to use the weekly releases because the 2008.0 are deprecated and the weekly releases only contain the minimial ISO

Reproducible: Always

The PPC handbook still has to be updated for the autobuilds, which will use the minimal CDs exclusively.

I already did the x86 and amd64 handbook updates for the autobuilds (see bug #260403), but the other arches still need to be done.

Alpha is done.

ARM is done, though it uses some alternative methods, not LiveCDs. Still, it's now inline with the autobuild process.

Comment 4 nm (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-07-20 08:32:55 UTC
Done so far: Alpha, AMD64, ARM, HPPA, IA64, Sparc, x86

Next up are PPC and PPC64, as originally requested.
Comment 5 nm (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-07-21 02:22:04 UTC
PPC and PPC64 are done.

I fixed the handbooks for all arches that use autobuilds.
