It appears to be failing on PS3 hardware support, which seems odd since you're building on a G4 not a PS3... Assigning to SDL maintainers and ppc team, who will hopefully be able to reproduce this problem.
The failure is from this configure option: $ ./configure --help | grep ps3 --enable-video-ps3 use PlayStation 3 Cell driver [default=yes] I disabled it in the ebuild emerged libsdl successfully on a G3.
