I'm seeing this on all three of my systems.

I was only able to reproduce it by supplying configure with '--disable-cassert', i.e. when NDEBUG was defined. "Cassert" is enabled by default when compiling from ebuild so I am wondering how you hit that bug?
Nevertheless, here is the patch.

Actually, that answers my questions :-)

In actuality, that's off my own user account. If I do sudo emerge --info, CFLAGS is:

CFLAGS="-march=native -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe"

However, as shown in the error output, the -DNDEBUG is clearly present. Sounds like I have a bit of detective work to see how that's bleeding in.
Comment 6 Ryan May 2009-09-29 15:07:35 UTC
Ok, figured it out. /etc/sudoers was clearing my user's CFLAGS, but not CXXFLAGS. So while this might be a bug in the package in that it doesn't compile with -DNDEBUG, it's also a bug in my configuration, because I didn't mean for that to be set.
