GNU Ocrad is an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) program implemented as a filter and based on a feature extraction method. It reads a bitmap image in pbm format and outputs text in ISO-8859-1 (Latin-1) charset. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:

this sounds quite a lot like gocr which is in portage. if you could outline features/benefits over gocr that Ocrad has, that'd be great.
This sounds more like text-markup than science.
This is up to version 0.6 now (released 18th Dec 2003). I'm still not sure about it vs GOCR.
Kooka+ocrad works for me, kooka+gocr doesn't. Please add it. Latest version is 0.7
yup, it recognises characters better than gocr. I added it to CVS. (I added missing DEPEND="virtual/glibc" to the ebuild) Thanks for the contribution.
