Description Bernardo Costa 2009-08-04 21:44:17 UTC
On loading firefox after installing icedtea6-bin (pulled by virtual/jre as a first option) plus eselect java-nsplugin, I have errors like "LoadPlugin" complaining of missing libraries
- libplc4.so.7
- libplds4.so.7
- libnspr4.so.7
which disappear if I hack a simlink for they in the nspr directory, but of course do not make the java plugin work under www-client/mozilla-firefox-3.5.1-r2 and net-libs/xulrunner-1-1.9.1.1-r2.

This is quite sad as it is the first option proposed by gentoo, and as it is a binary build, it's broken on ~amd64 platforms as the change on the nspr library makes me think.

Is it possible (for instance) to make a binary bump of icedtea with the updated dependencies of the unstable architectures ?

Thanks !!!

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge jre on a ~amd64 host, up to date with dev-libs/nspr-4.8 (most recent as of 04 August 2009)
2. enable the javaplugin with eselect java-nsplugin set 64bit icedtea6-bin
3. start firefox

Actual Results:
The applet test on http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml has only a background color active and nothing more.

On ~/.xsession-errors I get when I start firefox :
LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /opt/icedtea6-bin-1.4.1/jre/lib/amd64/IcedTeaPlugin.so [libnspr4.so.7: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory]

Expected Results:
See some information about my jre on the applet zone.

icedtea6-bin should really be bumped, but if you don't mind using overlays, icedtea6-1.5.1 is in the java-overlay and works fine with the new nspr.

Euhm. How exactly do I get icedtea6-1.5 from the overlay? When I do layman -s java-overlay and look in layman/java-overlay/dev-java/icedtea6/ , I only see 1.2-r1, 1.3.1-r2 and 1.4.

Thanks,

Klaas

Your copy of the java-overlay tree probably needs to be updated. I don't use layman, but I think the command is something like "layman --sync java-overlay".

Same problem on ~x86. With icedtea6-1.5.1 of java-overlay, the java plugin works.

thx

Fixed in icedtea6-bin-1.6.1, sorry for the wait.
