Description eivn 2009-07-28 02:45:18 UTC
Firefox crashes immediately if i try to open Tools --> Add-ons menu or after some seconds of usage with the following error:
/usr/lib64/mozilla-firefox/firefox: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/nsbrowser/plugins/gecko-mediaplayer-dvx.so: undefined symbol: gconf_client_get_default

This only occurs if gecko-mediaplayer-0.9.6 is built with --as-needed ldflag
Also version 0.9.5 (not in portage anymore) works fine even with --as-needed enabled.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

emerge --info

I have been unable to duplicate this. I know when I ran core2 for -march I had problems with xorg-server and other apps. Could you just test gecko-mediaplayer with -march=native and --as-needed ldflag please.

emerge gentoolkit
revdep-rebuild
Comment 3 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-07-29 02:01:55 UTC
and/or USE=-gnome or USE=gnome (pick one) emerge mozilla-firefox gnome-mplayer gecko-mediaplayer
Comment 4 Denis Dupeyron (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-08-30 05:37:12 UTC
Reopening because this is a real bug. I hit it after a full world rebuild, so no need to say that gecko-mediaplayer, gnome-mplayer, mplayer and all their dependencies had been rebuilt. Not surprisingly either revdep-rebuild doesn't find anything to rebuild. Removing --as-needed and rebuilding gecko-mediaplayer only fixes the issue. Probably some wrongly linked library that triggers an erroneous removal of a symbol, but I haven't had time to check what exactly it is.

Denis.

Bug still exist when building the newest version 0.9.7 with --as-needed.

Firefox crashes while trying to stream a wmp file.

Output to console is the following:

NPP_New called
/usr/lib64/mozilla-firefox/firefox: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/nsbrowser/plugins/gecko-mediaplayer-wmp.so: undefined symbol: dbus_connection_setup_with_g_main

Building with --as-needed disabled solves the problem immediately.

Created attachment 205410 [details, diff]
gecko-mediaplayer-as-needed.patch

That should fix the issues.

Fixed in 0.9.7-r1, thanks!
