Any news? Is anybody working on the new hplip?
I made a modified ebuild based on latest in portage (3.9.4b-r1 I think it is), commenting the epatch line and simply renaming it to 3.9.8. Worked fine for me. Thing is, 3.9.4b-r1 didn't work for me, couldn't print anything. I use an HP PSC 1410.
I was also able to compile it (when I removed the `epatch` line). Now I'm looking if any patching is needed. One thing is that it doesn't need to install it's own hpmud.rules - the ebuild mentions bug #197726 that says to use the "lp" group, now the upstream's default _is_ the "lp" group.
Created attachment 204857 [details] Updated hplip 3.9.8 ebuild I've updated the hplip ebuild to use the 40-hplip.rules (prepared for new udev). It compiles and installs, but I didn't test it - I will test it as soon as I buy the black cartridge :-)

I started using the new hpcups driver with 3.9.4b and it works for me (HP DJ 3650) - it has better configuration during printing. My ebuild installs it, so you can test it; no need to use "ppds" use flag.

3.9.8 is now in portage, although a bit modified.
(In reply to comment #8) > 3.9.8 is now in portage, although a bit modified. I'm not sure about the udev rules - the old ebuild that I had used 70-hpmud and 71-hpmud_support (both with modifications for new udev). My ebuild installed 70-hplip (without modifications, they are unneded) and 71-hpmud_support. Your ebuild installs 70-hplip and 56-hpmud_support (just from reading the script). Your ebuild changes the rules order.
