Description Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2009-06-22 21:36:31 UTC
Currently, I am suffering this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/270976
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/270976/comments/33

In summary, I am unable to burn a SVCD/DVD from a mpeg file with brasero:
"Project -> New Video Project -> Add (add video.mpeg) -> Burn"

I am unable to click on burn because of "missing plugins"

From ubuntu bug report, seems that the problem is related with mplex plugin not being built. I have tried to rebuild gst-plugins-bad and seems that it is being skipped. I have also tried to search for any gst-plugins-mplex (or something else) without success

My emerge --info:
Portage 2.1.6.13 (default/linux/amd64/2008.0/desktop, gcc-4.3.2, glibc-2.8_p20080602-r1, 2.6.29-tuxonice-r3 x86_64)

gst-plugins-bad build.log showing that mplex plugin is not been built
Comment 2 Mart Raudsepp gentoo-dev 2009-07-05 02:53:57 UTC
From the log it's seen that it has an external dependency, hence the solution is to package it as a separate package.

Note to me and other gstreamer packagers: The build.log shows that vcdsrc is getting built as part of gst-plugins-bad, but under the section with external dependencies. Smells like an automagic enable, and perhaps some problem with not listing vcdsrc in the eclass. Maybe it also means it'd make sense to have a separate package that includes both of vcdsrc and mplex plugins?

My current plan is to get the existing packages bumped up to date soon, and then look into packaging all the external dep plugins that we are missing out right now. This bug existence means that out of those I'd probably take care of mplex as one of the first new ones to get added. No promises on when exactly I get that far with my work backlog though.

Well, thanks for explanation :-)
Comment 4 Mart Raudsepp gentoo-dev 2010-08-03 16:07:44 UTC
media-plugins/gst-plugins-mplex-0.10.19 is in the tree now.

As a side note, maybe brasero should have explicit deps behind some USE flags on some of the gstreamer plugins that it tries to create explicitly with gst_element_factory_make calls?
Comment 5 Mart Raudsepp gentoo-dev 2010-08-03 17:54:24 UTC
Note that you'll probably also need gst-plugins-mpeg2enc for the brasero SVCD/DVD thing. I have added a package for that as well now. Many thanks to "arthapex" for testing
