When I try to add new OpenVPN connection using Gnome NM applet, the Apply button always remains gray, so the connection cannot be added. Also, when I press Cancel button, nm-applet crushes and shows bug buddy. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Right click on the network manager icon in Gnome, select Edit Connections from the popup menu. 2. Go to VPN tab. Press Add or Import button. Enter connection parameters or review them if you have imported the file. Actual Results: You are unable to save the connection because Apply button is grayed out (see screenshot). Expected Results: You should be able to save the connection.

First off, please mention which version of networkmanager-openvpn you have installed, I've taken a guess at 0.7.1 based on the version of nm-applet you mentioned... Secondly, the edit connections dialog will only allow you to apply the settings once all the keys have been filled in (this is the expected behaviour). Please try selecting the appropriate certificates and private keys (and passwords for password auth) and report back whether the apply button is now enabled. Finally, the crash on pressing the cancel button is an issue (I've verified it happens to me too). I'd recommend filing this bug upstream (using bug-buddy), and then report the bug URL back here please. Thanks... 5:)
Mike, I am actually using networkmanager-openvpn 0.7.1 as you guessed (see below). I used Bug Buddy to report about the crash which occurs after pressing Cancel button and Bug Buddy shows me this URL - http://crash.gnome.org/report/index/6108eff0-657a-11de-a162-0007e9333148?date=2009-06-30-13 . However, attempt to access this URL ends up with 503 Service Unavailable error. Maybe you will be more lucky. As to filling in all inputs, the Apply button has really become available after I entered login and password, which allowed me to save the connection entry and then to establish the connection. So you may close the bug as user misunderstanding. However, this can be considered as a bad usability testing, because I thought I will be asked for login and password later, then I will establish the connection.
Thanks for that, it looks like it might be associated with [1]. Glad you managed to get the apply button working... 5:) [1] http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=584682
It now fixed. Thanks for reporting! Rob
OK. How do I get the nm-applet version without this bug?
emerge --sync emerge nm-applet
