Description Andrew Savchenko gentoo-dev 2009-06-20 15:04:48 UTC
luatex-0.40.5 unconditionally depends on X, thus making texlive unusable on mashines without X installed because of unconditional dependency on luatex (at least for texlive-2008.ebuild).

If this cannot be fixed in luatex, then luatex itself should be optional for texlive.
Comment 1 Alexis Ballier gentoo-dev 2009-06-22 20:52:23 UTC

I dont see anything X related; please be more explicit and reopen.
Comment 2 Andrew Savchenko gentoo-dev 2009-06-23 08:09:43 UTC
configure script of luatex-0.40.5 requires X libs to be available:
checking for installed fontconfig headers and library... yes
checking for X... no
configure: error: Sorry, could not find required X include and library files.

What bothers me is why '--with-x' is passed to configure:

Comment 5 Jeff Kowalczyk 2009-06-23 12:11:05 UTC
Confirmed. I'm building a new server amd64, USE="-X" and this is preventing and emerge of texlive.

checking for installed fontconfig headers and library... yes
checking for X... no
configure: error: Sorry, could not find required X include and library files.

Comment 6 Jeff Kowalczyk 2009-06-23 12:52:52 UTC
See http://www.mail-archive.com/dev-luatex@ntg.nl/msg00928.html for discussion and fix. However, I added:
  src_configure() {
  ...
        econf \
  ...
    --without-mf-x-toolkit \
    --without-x

to the ebuild, and it had no effect. I think the problem could be adjusted here in the ebuild, but I don't know why that didn't work.

Later in the above thread, a reference was made to a commit in the "TL" (TexLive?) SVN that improves option handling in this area.

Comment 7 Alexis Ballier gentoo-dev 2009-06-23 20:01:18 UTC
thanks, i was able to reproduce the issue on a X-less chroot; it should be fixed now by adding --without-x.

@Jeff: if this isn't enough for you, please post a full build log.
Comment 8 Andrew Savchenko gentoo-dev 2009-06-23 21:41:05 UTC
It works for me with --without-x added to econf option list.
