Description Felipe Lessa 2009-06-20 14:40:51 UTC
Hello!

I've just upgraded gnome-extra/gnome-media from 2.24.0.1-r1 to 2.26.0 and my keybindings for volume up/down/mute are not working anymore. The sound card I've selected is the "Simultaneous output to everything" (PulseAudio's combined module) and the gnome-volume-control-applet works fine, but the keybindings don't. If I select any real sound card in gnome-volume-control then both gnome-volume-control-applet *and* the keybindings work nicely. Note that the volume slider inside gnome-volume-control works everywhere.

Now, I've tried to look where those keybindings are handled, and it seems that gnome-settings-daemon catches them. I've killed mine and restarted it using --debug --no-daemon. I've done the following:

1) Set output card to be "Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000" (an USB headphone). No messages.

2) Change volume, everything goes fine:

** (gnome-settings-daemon:3070): DEBUG: Changing volume for sink: n=2 vol=62912
** (gnome-settings-daemon:3070): DEBUG: Channel 0 v=62912
** (gnome-settings-daemon:3070): DEBUG: Channel 1 v=62912
** (gnome-settings-daemon:3070): DEBUG: Updating sink: index=2 name='alsa_output.usb_device_45e_70f_noserial_if0_sound_card_0' description='Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 ' map='front-left,front-right'
** (gnome-settings-daemon:3070): DEBUG: Changing volume for sink: n=2 vol=65536
** (gnome-settings-daemon:3070): DEBUG: Channel 0 v=65536
** (gnome-settings-daemon:3070): DEBUG: Channel 1 v=65536
** (gnome-settings-daemon:3070): DEBUG: Updating sink: index=2 name='alsa_output.usb_device_45e_70f_noserial_if0_sound_card_0' description='Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 ' map='front-left,front-right'

3) Change the sound card to "Simultaneous...". I get:

** (gnome-settings-daemon:3070): WARNING **: Unable to get default sink

4) Change sound card back to the USB headphone, no messages.

5) Change to "Simultanous", same message:

** (gnome-settings-daemon:3070): WARNING **: Unable to get default sink

6) Now, weirdly enough, I've changed back to the USB headphone and I got:

** (gnome-settings-daemon:3070): CRITICAL **: gvc_mixer_stream_get_name: assertion `GVC_IS_MIXER_STREAM (stream)' failed

7) Now nothing works anymore and I've restarted gnome-settings-daemon :).

Any clues?

Thanks!

it doesn't work at all for pulseaudio, please fill an upstream bug report and paste the URL here, thanks.

So upstream has a fix in 2.27.x -- http://git.gnome.org/cgit/gnome-media/commit/?id=445e8ff0b2675fe7907b700ebd4c5e9b4251ab73

I'm going to backport the fix and close this bug...
Comment 4 Nirbheek Chauhan (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-09-12 12:00:04 UTC
The second part of the fix is at http://git.gnome.org/cgit/gnome-settings-daemon/commit/?id=5b73218d9170626162fca03425ac7f0b4789bc0f

gnome-media and gnome-settings-daemon have been patched in CVS, closing FIXED.

Great, I hope this solves the problem.

Thanks a lot for your time!
