All gdm versions prior 2.4.1.6 have security problems, it's recommeded to update 
to 2.4.1.6 immediatly:

2.4.1.6 has been in the tree for a while, feel free to mark it stable aliz.

This was all in the announcement of course. The NEWS file isn't really helpful . Let me see, http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-announce-list/2003-August/msg00071.html is more helpful.

marked stable by lanius on the 26th of august.

it was already stable for most arches at the time.
