I have installed virtualbox-guest-additions-2.2.2 and it has created an udev rule called 60-virtualbox-guest-additions.rules. The file content is: KERNEL=="vboxadd", NAME="vboxadd", OWNER="vboxadd", MODE="0660" KERNEL=="vboxuser", NAME="vboxuser", OWNER="vboxadd", MODE="0660" The problem is that when it was installed, the user vboxadd wasn't created. So every boot udev shows a message saying that this user doesn't exist. The problem is gone when you create the user vboxadd, but I don't know if this is right and if the user name that should be on this rule is really vboxadd since I don't have much experience with udev. I am having this problem now in gentoo amd64 and when I was using gentoo x86. Except for this bug, Virtual Box Guest Additions works perfectly. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install virtualbox-guest-additions-2.2.2 and its dependencies. 2. Reboot the system. Actual Results: UDEV will complain about the non-existing user vboxadd. Expected Results: This message should not be showed, so or vboxadd user should be created by default in the package installation or the name on udev rule should be changed. emerge --info Portage 2.2_rc33 (default/linux/amd64/2008.0, gcc-4.3.2, glibc-2.8_p20080602-r1, 2.6.28-gentoo-r5 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.28-gentoo-r5-x86_64-AMD_Turion-tm-_64_X2_Mobile_Technology_TL-50-with-glibc2.2.5 Timestamp of tree: Sun, 10 May 2009 13:00:01 +0000 ccache version 2.4 [enabled] app-shells/bash: 3.2_p39 dev-java/java-config: 2.1.7 dev-lang/python: 2.5.4-r2 dev-util/ccache: 2.4-r7 dev-util/cmake: 2.6.4 sys-apps/baselayout: 2.0.0 sys-apps/openrc: 0.4.3-r2 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.6-r2 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.63 sys-devel/automake: 1.5, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10.2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.18-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.0-r4 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.26 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.27-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=k8-sse3 -O2 -pipe" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/kde/4.2/env /usr/kde/4.2/share/config /usr/kde/4.2/shutdown /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/gentoo-release /etc/php/apache2-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cgi-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cli-php5/ext-active/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/sandbox.d /etc/splash /etc/terminfo /etc/texmf/language.dat.d /etc/texmf/language.def.d /etc/texmf/updmap.d /etc/texmf/web2c /etc/udev/rules.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=k8-sse3 -O2 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="ccache distlocks fixpackages parallel-fetch preserve-libs protect-owned sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-orphans userfetch" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://www.las.ic.unicamp.br/pub/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.las.ic.unicamp.br/pub/gentoo/ " LANG="pt_BR" LC_ALL="pt_BR" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1" LINGUAS="pt_BR en" MAKEOPTS="-j3" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_CONFIGROOT="/" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="3dnow 3dnowext X acl alsa amd64 apache2 audiofile bash-completion berkdb bzip2 cdr cdrparanoia cli cracklib crypt cups dbus djvu dri dvd dvdr fortran ftp gdbm gif gpm gtk gtk2 hal iconv imagemagick ipv6 isdnlog java javascript jpeg kde kdeprefix midi mmx mp3 msn mudflap multilib ncurses nls nptl nptlonly nsplugin ogg opengl openmp pam pcre pdf perl php png pppd python qt4 quicktime readline reflection samba sdl session spell spl sse sse2 ssl swat sysfs tcpd truetype unicode usb vorbis wma xcomposite xorg xscreensaver xulrunner zlib" ALSA_CARDS="ali5451 als4000 atiixp atiixp-modem bt87x ca0106 cmipci emu10k1x ens1370 ens1371 es1938 es1968 fm801 hda-intel intel8x0 intel8x0m maestro3 trident usb-audio via82xx via82xx-modem ymfpci" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic authn_alias authn_anon authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" CAMERAS="ptp2 canon sony_dscf1 sony_dscf55" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="evdev keyboard mouse synaptics" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="pt_BR en" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="nvidia" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, FFLAGS, INSTALL_MASK, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS
(In reply to comment #0) [..] hi, the udev rule is correct the "vboxadd" user (and group) are needed by virtualbox-guest-additions. I just fixed this issue on jokey's overlay[1] both for virtualbox-guest-additions-2.2.2 and virtualbox-guest-additions-2.2.4, thanks a lot for your report. [1] http://overlays.gentoo.org/dev/jokey
+ 01 Jun 2009; Patrick Lauer <patrick@gentoo.org> + +virtualbox-ose-2.2.4.ebuild: + Bump to 2.2.4, thanks to Alessio Cassibba. Fixes #271983 #271341 #269335 Bumped all of virtualbox with the fixes from jokey overlay, should fix this bug too.
