Description Ronan Arraes Jardim Chagas 2009-05-10 22:19:31 UTC
I have installed virtualbox-guest-additions-2.2.2 and it has created an udev rule called 60-virtualbox-guest-additions.rules. The file content is:

KERNEL=="vboxadd", NAME="vboxadd", OWNER="vboxadd", MODE="0660"
KERNEL=="vboxuser", NAME="vboxuser", OWNER="vboxadd", MODE="0660"

The problem is that when it was installed, the user vboxadd wasn't created. So every boot udev shows a message saying that this user doesn't exist. The problem is gone when you create the user vboxadd, but I don't know if this is right and if the user name that should be on this rule is really vboxadd since I don't have much experience with udev.

I am having this problem now in gentoo amd64 and when I was using gentoo x86. Except for this bug, Virtual Box Guest Additions works perfectly.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install virtualbox-guest-additions-2.2.2 and its dependencies.
2. Reboot the system.

Actual Results:
UDEV will complain about the non-existing user vboxadd.

Expected Results:
This message should not be showed, so or vboxadd user should be created by default in the package installation or the name on udev rule should be changed.

[..]

hi,
the udev rule is correct the "vboxadd" user (and group) are needed by
virtualbox-guest-additions.

I just fixed this issue on jokey's overlay[1] both for
virtualbox-guest-additions-2.2.2 and
virtualbox-guest-additions-2.2.4, thanks a lot for your report.

+  Bump to 2.2.4, thanks to Alessio Cassibba. Fixes #271983 #271341 #269335

Bumped all of virtualbox with the fixes from jokey overlay, should fix this bug too.
