Description Juergen Rose 2009-05-05 08:22:43 UTC
revdep-rebuild finds that /usr/lib64/cpufreqd_nvclock.la is broken because of missing libbackend:
...
broken /usr/lib64/cpufreqd_nvclock.la (requires -lbackend)

And there is also no /usr/lib/libbackend*.

Reproducible: Always

# Libraries that this one depends upon.
dependency_libs=' -L//var/tmp/portage/sys-power/cpufreqd-2.2.1/work/nvclock0.8b/src/backend -lbackend'

Revdep-rebuild started checking for .la file correctness in gentoolkit-0.2.6.10, this .la file references a non-existing library. The best thing would probably be to just delete the .la files, since they seem to not be used for anything.

It comes from this part of the Makefile.am:
if NVCLOCK_PLUGIN
cpufreqd_nvclock_la_SOURCES = \
		cpufreqd_nvclock.c

cpufreqd_nvclock_la_CFLAGS = \
		$(AM_CFLAGS) -I/@NVCLOCK_SRCDIR@/src/backend

cpufreqd_nvclock_la_LDFLAGS = \
		-module -avoid-version -L/@NVCLOCK_SRCDIR@/src/backend -lbackend
endif

autotools strikes fear into the hearts of slackers everywhere.

loki_val, can you suggest a mechanism for revdep-rebuild to automatically delete/correct lafiles like this?
Comment 4 Marcello Magaldi 2009-07-05 15:27:11 UTC
same issue here on amd64 with cpufreqd-2.1.1, currently last stable version , removing /usr/lib64/cpufreqd_nvclock.la solves the issue but if I re-emerge cpufreqd I get this broken .la again.
Comment 5 Rodolphe Keller 2009-07-31 07:35:00 UTC
Same problem here, on i686, with the stable version (sys-power/cpufreqd-2.1.1). revdep-rebuild wants to rebuild it over and over again. I tried to emerge -C cpufreqd and reinstall it, the broken file comes back.

>>> /usr/lib/cpufreqd_nvclock.la

Additionally, after revdep-rebuild launches the recompilation, I have a sandbox error:
"sandbox:main signal SIGQUIT already had a handler ...". The package is built but not any file is installed (instead, i got two more times the sandbox-error). I dont know to what extent this is a normal behaviour.

Because of this bug, I have added

  SEARCH_DIRS_MASK = "... /usr/lib64/cpufreqd_nvclock.la ..."

into my /etc/make.conf.

HTH ( This cures the symptom )
