OpenOCD consistently dies with the error: ... cc1: warnings being treated as errors amt_jtagaccel.c: In function 'amt_jtagaccel_reset': amt_jtagaccel.c:152: error: ignoring return value of 'write', declared with attribute warn_unused_result ... The problem lines are 73-78 in openocd-9999/src/jtag/amt_jtagaccel.c (example): 73: #define AMT_AW(val) do { ioctl(device_handle, PPSETMODE, &addr_mode); write(device_handle, &val, 1); } while (0) ... I tried a number of fixes, including voiding the returns, creating some dummy variable, etc. they all gave warnings which were interpreted as errors due to the -Werror CFLAG being set. When I added --disable-werror to the ebuild's econf I was able to get further in the compile. Other errors will be reported separately. ###################### obligatory emerge --info ###################### Portage 2.1.6.12 (default/linux/x86/2008.0/desktop, gcc-4.3.3, glibc-2.9_p20081201-r2, I just had an idea for a potential solution to this. Add something like: $(use !debug && echo "--disable-werror") to the ebuild. This worked in a simple test case. Actually, I think that disabling werror by default upstream and possibly adding "--enable-werror" if debug, or other use flag, is set. Just a though...
no ebuild in the tree should ever build with -Werror regardless of USE flags
following up on this I find that it is still broken upstream...
Fixed, thanks
