Description Harris Landgarten 2009-04-15 03:55:32 UTC
After installing pulseaudio-0.9.15 pavucontrol crashes on start. I am attaching the bug buddy report that was generated. Nothing shows on the command line. Reverting to 0.9.14 fixes the problem.

Reproducible: Always

Did you try to recompile pavucontrol?
Comment 3 Harris Landgarten 2009-04-15 11:57:40 UTC
Yes, the first thing I did was reinstall pavucontrol and run reconcilio
Comment 4 Rafał Mużyło 2009-04-15 13:19:42 UTC
Is pavucontrol 0.9.7 or 0.9.8 ?
0.9.8 release was tied with pulseaudio 0.9.15 release.
Comment 5 Harris Landgarten 2009-04-15 13:22:39 UTC
pavucontrol-0.9.7

I don't see 0.9.8 in the tree yet.

try to rename it to 0.9.8, create manifest and try to emerge it, lets see what happens... (I'm ganna do this later this day if it is still not in the repo than)
Comment 7 Rafał Mużyło 2009-04-15 15:47:15 UTC
Well, it was not in the tree, when I emerged it.

unfortunately it didn't work for me :-( probalby I need a newer version of gtk(whatever)...

Comment 9 Harris Landgarten 2009-04-15 21:07:11 UTC
The problem seems to be that pavucontrol-0.9.8 or 0.9.8-r1 is required but it fails to compile. It might be a good idea to mask pulseaudio-0.9.15 until all of its associated utilities are in the tree.

On another note, pulseaudio-0.9.15 also set all audio channels to maximum volume after the first reboot, a potentially dangerous and certainly annoying practice. Does that need another bug report?

I just upgraded on my main box (~x86). pavucontrol 0.9.7 seems to work with pulseaudio-0.9.15 (at least until now ;-) )
I think pavucontrol-0.9.8 won't hit the tree until it's deps will hit (AFAIK gtkmm-2.16, as it uses gtk_scale_add_mark which got introduced in gtk+-2.16). hope the gnome/gtk team will push them to the tree soon as the ebuilds already exist in their overlay...

Comment 11 Rafał Mużyło 2009-04-16 16:17:25 UTC
Well, I did have gtk+-2.16 from gnome overlay.

pavucontrol-0.9.7 does not crash anymore after applying this patch.

I think the cleanest is just adding pavucontrol 0.9.8 to portage, it is simple enough. All iu had to do is rename it and create the manifest, here is the ebuild: http://dev.9souldier.org/?p=overlay.git;a=blob_plain;f=media-sound/pavucontrol/pavucontrol-0.9.8.ebuild;hb=HEAD , it works fine for me and fixes the segfault with pulseaudio-0.9.15.
Cheers

In portage.
