Today on mailing list was announcement of new big release of Bacula. Information here: http://tinyurl.com/coujv5 Information 2 here: http://tinyurl.com/dalbu4 Sources here: http://tinyurl.com/ypwv5g
There is an ebuild in my overlay for this. http://github.com/drescherjm/jmdgentoooverlay/tree/2b0fc273cb6222bc83d6cc284e28ec5a136ed99a/app-backup/bacula see the wiki for overlay instructions: http://wiki.github.com/drescherjm/jmdgentoooverlay or copy the bacula-3.0.0.ebuild and the files/3.0.0 folder to your own local overlay. And follow the normal ebuild bacula-3.0.0.ebuild digest and then build... I tested a few backups and bat on my home network. I am using postgresql and this was upgraded from the 2.5 beta version.
Confirmed to be working on amd64 and x86. On a side note, the ebuild warning should include instructions to upgrade the database format from version 10 to 11 (2.x to 3.x) to prevent any strange errors. GUI's not tested nor installed. I just committed the update to 3.0.1. No changes in the ebuild just rename to 3.0.1 and link files/3.0.1 to files/3.0.0 http://github.com/drescherjm/jmdgentoooverlay/tree/8dc61fa87dacc67d2012cb22a6961ff058be8097/app-backup/bacula
Hi John... Is there any timeframe for bacula-3.0.1 appearing in the official Gentoo portage tree stable or even unstable? Unfortunately, I was in the middle of deploying bacula 2.4.4 to 5 clients just as 3.0.x came out and while I am playing with a 3.0.1 ebuild locally, I'd prefer use the official tree for my clients if possible. Thanks!
* BUMP! * Well, the software is extremely important for our metadistro (we aim for extreme techies, aren't we?), so what's more needed than plain ebuild to get this in Portage even in testing? Please make it go in Portage ASAP.
Version 3.0.2 was released today.
I just added 3.0.2 in my overlay http://github.com/drescherjm/jmdgentoooverlay/tree/d26dd4157a37b5b48c0cd6cda73ba4e0aa8f922f/app-backup/bacula

Since I use bacula on 40+ machines I maintain it in my overlay for myself and I am just sharing this with anyone who wants..
(In reply to comment #7) > I just added 3.0.2 in my overlay > Thanks John. I'll try it.
Working on it...
3.0.2 is in Portage now, please test :)
