Description Mark Tiefenbruck 2009-04-01 04:09:45 UTC
I recently updated my xf86-video-ati to 6.12.1 and then 6.12.1-r1, but they both cause corruption in epsxe. I added them to my /etc/portage/package.mask, only to find that there are no other versions appropriate for my system. emerge says that xorg-server requires 6.9.0 or later, but the next latest version in portage is 6.8.0. I forced it to install 6.8.0 anyway. That fixed the corruption, but the driver's so slow that playback skips once or twice per second. Please add a 6.11 version back to portage. You really need to provide people with more than one option, in case something doesn't work.

Reproducible: Always

How about filing a bug in FreeDesktop's bugzilla to solve that problem instead?

If you do, please paste the url here so we can track potential patches.

Thanks

Hi, i didnt see bugs for the new versions and since they worked fine for me i expected no issues from others. Dont expect us to keep aroud tons of drivers it is hell for maintaining :]
Rather fill bug upstream. Today it looks like ati driver has a bugday so it might get fixed fast :]

I certainly will report it as soon as I can find reasonable conditions to reproduce the bug. At the moment, I don't think sending the developers a 600MB file (which, by the way, would be copyright infringement) is a good idea. I guess I can do a git bisect for them and show before and after screenshots. However, I know how difficult these things are to fix, and I have no expectations that it will be fixed quickly. In the meantime, I'd prefer if everything worked. I don't expect you to keep around lots of versions, but I do expect more than one for something as important and historically buggy, due to having to interact with wide varieties of hardware, as video drivers.

That is the problem. There was no bug around.
If there was bug i would not remove the versions.

Sorry. I was on vacation. It was only a week.

hello.

I have the same probleme here : i can't use 6.12.* or 6.11 because it makes the kernel oops when X exits (and as such, i have no way to cleanly shutdown the computer for example).

The last know working version is probably 6.9 or 6.10, but there are not in portage anymore so i'm fubared :-(

Please put those versions back in portage.

Restored 6.10.0 6.9.0 and 6.11.0.
Patches are applied only on already stabled version or on stable candidates (latest in testing if i find no issues with it).
