sys-apps/hal-0.5.11-r1 blocks all udev versions >=125, no other (older or newer!) version of hal does that. However, bug 254616 asks us to stabilize udev-135-r3. So should we (arch teams) go ahead and stabilize sys-apps/hal-0.5.11-r4? That's the oldest version without the block.
I would recommend an early stable of hal-0.5.11-r8; an earlier release could result in problems for PowerPC down the road. This is also the first real release that has had some patch love. Arches, please test & mark stable sys-apps/hal-0.5.11-r8, target keywords: alpha amd64 hppa ia64 ppc sparc x86
PowerPC64, adding you too as your patches are in here. Could you consider following this lead?
+1 for hal-0.5.11-r8. Works here on PPC and x86 without a problem and contains many fixes for different issues. It is the fist hal version that is free of major issues for PPC and macbook users. If you mark this stable please remove the laptop use.mask from hal.

Stable for HPPA.
I was just trouble shooting a problem with kde storage media, it recently stopped showing some of my partitions. I have a windows NTFS partition that I don't automount (don't use it enough). I usually just go to storage media when I need to use it. I know it was working a week ago, I've sync'd a couple times since then, but yesterday both it and my boot partition were missing from those listed in kde's storage media. I'm pretty sure I've narrowed the problem down to hal-0.5.11-r8. I just masked hal-0.5.11-r8, did an emerge update that replaced it with hal-0.5.11-r1 (and also installed pyxf86config-0.3.34-r2), did a system restart to make sure I didn't forget to restart anything, and the problem has gone away. Here is my emerge info: Portage 2.1.6.7 (default/linux/x86/2008.0/desktop, gcc-4.1.2, glibc-2.6.1-r0, 2.6.27-gentoo-r8 i686) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.27-gentoo-r8-i686-Intel-R-_Pentium-R-_M_processor_1.60GHz-with-glibc2.0 Timestamp of tree: Tue, 24 Feb 2009 08:45:01 +0000 app-shells/bash: 3.2_p39 dev-java/java-config: 2.1.6-r1 dev-lang/python: 2.5.2-r7 dev-util/cmake: 2.4.8 sys-apps/baselayout: 1.12.11.1 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.18.1-r2 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.63 sys-devel/automake: 1.5, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10.2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.18-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.0-r4 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.26 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.27-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=pentium-m -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/config /var/lib/hsqldb" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo /etc/udev/rules.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=pentium-m -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="distlocks fixpackages parallel-fetch protect-owned sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-orphans userfetch" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://chi-10g-1-mirror.fastsoft.net/pub/linux/gentoo/gentoo-distfiles/ http://gentoo.chem.wisc.edu/gentoo/ http://mirror.datapipe.net/gentoo" LANG="en_US.utf8" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.namerica.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X a52 aac acl acpi alsa amr apm berkdb bluetooth branding bzip2 cairo cddb cdr cli cracklib crypt css cups cupsddk curl dbus dell dga disk-partition dri dv dvd dvdread eds emboss encode esd evo exif fam fat ffmpeg firefox fortran gdbm gif gnutls gpm gstreamer hal hfs iconv id3tag ieee1394 ipod ipv6 isdnlog java jce jpeg kde lame laptop ldap libnotify lm_sensors logitech-mouse lzo mad midi mikmod mmx mmxext mng mp3 mp4 mpeg mudflap musicbrainz ncurses networkmanager nls nptl nptlonly nsplugin ntfs ntp nvidia offensive ogg opengl openmp pam pcmcia pcre pda pdf perl png ppds pppd python qt3 qt3support qt4 quicktime rar readline reflection reiserfs scanner sdl session smp snmp spell spl sse sse2 ssl startup-notification svg svga sysfs tcpd tiff truetype unicode usb v4l vorbis win32codecs wmf x86 xfs xine xml xorg xscreensaver xulrunner xv xvid xvmc zlib" ALSA_CARDS="ali5451 als4000 atiixp atiixp-modem bt87x ca0106 cmipci emu10k1 emu10k1x ens1370 ens1371 es1938 es1968 fm801 hda-intel intel8x0 intel8x0m maestro3 trident usb-audio via82xx via82xx-modem ymfpci" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic authn_alias authn_anon authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse synaptics vmouse" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="intel nvidia nv vmware v4l" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, FFLAGS, INSTALL_MASK, LC_ALL, LINGUAS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY
(In reply to comment #11) > I was just trouble shooting a problem with kde storage media, it recently > stopped showing some of my partitions. I have a windows NTFS partition that I > don't automount (don't use it enough). You want bug #232195 for the original policy decision, and bug #247025 for the cabal that ensued when I tried to revert it. Sorry, no. Also, do not hijack unrelated bugs. If anything, reopen bug #247025 and come to an agreement with the existing bug reporters.
Marked ppc64 stable, closing since we're the last arch.
Whoops, didn't mean to close this one (sorry)
Argh, okay actually done on ppc64 now,
