Problem: On a freshly installed gentoo ~x86, I started compiz under a GNOME environment with the command "compiz-manager" which always took the default decoration of gtk-window-decorator. gtk-window-decorator is good, but not very customazible. Expected: I wanted compiz to use the metacity-themes for windows-decorations by default. workaround: I set the schemas fot gtk-window-decorator manually as described under http://wiki.compiz-fusion.org/Decorators/GTKWindowDecorator My Question: Shouldn't metacity install schemas for the gtw-window-decorator aswell so that metacity-themes are used by gtk-window-decorator?

Same problem here on my newer x86_64 machine. I have used this workaround: # export GCONF_CONFIG_SOURCE=`gconftool-2 --get-default-source` # gconftool-2 --makefile-install-rule /etc/gconf/schemas/gwd.schemas And then log out and log in. With compiz-0.8.2, the schemas are installed when the gnome use flag is enabled: /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-move.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-rotate.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-wobbly.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-regex.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-inotify.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-minimize.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-obs.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/gwd.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-zoom.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-dbus.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-screenshot.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-commands.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-blur.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-switcher.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-core.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-glib.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-scale.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-gconf.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-svg.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-kconfig.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-resize.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-fs.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-video.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-clone.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-ini.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-decoration.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-gnomecompat.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-annotate.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-place.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-water.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-png.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-fade.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-cube.schemas Reopen the bug if there's anything missing here.
Seems that they are installed: /etc /etc/gconf /etc/gconf/schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-annotate.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-blur.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-clone.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-commands.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-core.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-cube.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-dbus.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-decoration.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-fade.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-fs.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-gconf.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-glib.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-gnomecompat.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-ini.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-inotify.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-kconfig.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-minimize.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-move.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-obs.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-place.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-png.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-regex.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-resize.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-rotate.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-scale.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-screenshot.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-svg.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-switcher.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-video.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-water.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-wobbly.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz-zoom.schemas /etc/gconf/schemas/gwd.schemas But I still see: >>> Installing x11-wm/compiz-0.8.2-r1 * No GNOME 2 GConf schemas found * No GNOME 2 GConf schemas found * If you update to x11-wm/metacity-2.24 after you install compiz-0.8.2, * gtk-window-decorator will crash until you reinstall compiz again. >>> Auto-cleaning packages... >>> No outdated packages were found on your system.
Seems that ebuild is missing: pkg_preinst() { use gnome && gnome2_gconf_savelist } It seems to solve my issue
Applied to package without a revbump. Thanks again.
