Just downgrading to 8.5.1 makes amsn work again. After updating to these versions, amsn no longer start with the following error: Loading TxCximage failed. This module is needed to run aMSN. Also, 8.5.5 worked fine, but it's no longer available in portage tree :-(
It's an upstream amsn issue: http://www.amsn-project.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6135 I attach the patch fir fixing it now, but there is another problem with tcl that I will look for
