Description Iskren Slavov 2009-01-11 20:31:49 UTC
With the default iwl3945 driver when you try to create an Ad-hoc network with WEP encryption it constantly reconnects. And the Ad-hoc network is unusable. This patch for the kernel driver fixes it.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create your home Ad-hoc network like this:
/etc/conf.d/net:

modules=( "iwconfig" )
config_wlan0=( "192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0" )
scan_mode_wlan0="ad-hoc"
mode_wlan0="ad-hoc"
essid_wlan0="foo"
adhoc_essid_wlan0="foo"
key_foo="s:testnetkey enc open"

2. Start your wireless card:
/etc/init.d/net.wlan0 start

3. Connect a client to the Ad-hoc network and start using the network.

4. Look at all the pretty disconnects.
Actual Results:
The client (Windows XP machine) kept disconnecting and reconnecting to the Ad-hoc network constantly.

Expected Results:
The network shuld have been usable. That's why I looked at the git sources and found this patch. When I applied the patch all was fixed and the Ad-hoc network became usable.

Comment 2 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-01-19 12:57:19 UTC
fixed in gentoo-sources-2.6.27-r8 and gentoo-sources-2.6.28-r1
Comment 3 Denilson Sá Maia 2009-03-04 05:47:36 UTC
Do you know if/when this patch will be added to the mainline (vanilla) kernel?

(yeah, I know vanilla-sources are unsupported; I just want to know when this will be fixed "upstream")
