Description Mike Sager 2009-01-06 16:22:40 UTC
I have been trying to get biblatex (which requires url.sty) to work and had little success because /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/html/url.sty from dev-tex/latex2html was being used instead of /usr/share/texmf-dist/tex/latex/ltxmisc/url.sty from texlive. The version from texlive is 3.3 (2006), whereas the version from latex2html is 1.4 (1999). Deleting latex2html's /usr/share/texmf-dist/tex/latex/ltxmisc/url.sty solved the problem.

Perhaps we can remove url.sty from the latex2html package since texlive already has url.sty?

For the sake of the googlers, here is the actual error message latex failed with:
! Undefined control sequence.
\biburlsetup ->\Urlmuskip
                          =0mu plus 2mu\relax \mathchardef \UrlBreakPenalty ...

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install biblatex on a system where latex2html is installed.
2. Run latex on a file that uses biblatex.
3.  Read error message...

which latex2html version?

<sigh> This is slightly embarrassing. Upgrading to the keyworded 2008 version works just fine. I had, of course, been using the 2002 version of latex2html and hadn't even thought to check for a newer version.

Sorry to waste your time, but thanks for the help! I appreciate the work you do.

(Not sure whether I should mark this "fixed" or "invalid," so I'll leave that one to the experts :)(In reply to comment #0)

heh, I was pretty sure I had fixed this some time ago :)
anyway, that's a good reason to request 2008 to go stable so that'll prevent others from suffering from this bug
